If you are an established virtual assistant, it is likely there will come a point when your workload is too heavy for you to handle alone. Rather than having to hire someone and take on the responsibilities of an employer, why not outsource extra work to a freelancer using a website like People Per Hour (AKA PPH)? Working with freelancers is a cost effective and flexible option. Here we will provide our top tips on how to use PPH to get extra help in your business.

How does People Per Hour work?

People Per Hour is a website that aims to connect freelance workers with prospective clients, streamlining the workflow process. The platform provides both freelancers and businesses with a wide range of benefits including excellent invoicing and payment processing and a fair rating system.

Posting a job

One way you can use People Per Hour to get extra help in your business is to post a job advert. Within the advert you will need to specify the service you require and when you need it to be delivered by. You will then receive numerous proposals from freelancers. If you like you can chat with freelancers to get to know more about them or you can simply select them based on their profile, proposal and feedback. They will then deliver the work to you and once satisfied you can release their payment.

Tips for posting a job advert

In order to make sure you hire the right freelancers for the job, the key is to post a high quality job advert. Rather than simply outlining what you are looking for and leaving it there, we recommend asking questions for freelancers to answer in their proposals, just like you would if you were conducting a job interview. For example you may want to ask why they think they are the best person for the job and how much time they can commit, especially if you are looking to build a long-term professional relationship.

Within your job advert on PPH it is also important to state a clear budget. Whilst you could leave it blank, this often puts freelancers off. It is much better to state the amount you are willing to spend, so freelancers can determine whether or not they are willing to work for your going rate.

Another excellent tip for posting a job advert on PPH is to include a random word at the end of your advert and ask people to include the word in their proposal. This will make it easier for you to sort through proposals, as if freelancers haven’t included the word, then it shows they have not bothered to read your advert and are therefore not worth your time!

Choosing the winning proposal

When it comes to choosing the winning proposal you need to look for a freelancer that has experience or skills that you personally lack. The beauty of outsourcing is that you have the option to delegate work to a dedicated expert. Before choosing the winning proposal, always check out their reviews and ratings to make sure that other people have had a good experience working with them.

Buying an hourlie

If you do not have the time to sift through proposals, you may find it more beneficial to buy an hourlie. An hourlie on PPH is like an advert that freelancers post to tell businesses about their services. The service advertised in an hourlie will always be offered at a fixed price.

Hourlies are split up into categories depending on the service offered. They can be defined by ‘most relevant,’ ‘most popular’ and ‘latest.’ If you are looking for a virtual assistant to help you with extra work, simply search for ‘virtual assistant’ and you will be presented with a number of relevant hourlies. Whilst it is important to choose someone that can provide the service you require, within your deadline, it is also important that the hourlie has had lots of sales and hire ratings, as this will give you the peace of mind that they offer a quality service.

Once you have chosen an hourlie, you can simply buy it and deposit the funds into the escrow account. It will then be held there until the freelancer completes the work to your satisfaction.

Conclusion

If you are looking to work with freelancers to cover busy periods, we highly recommend that you conduct your business through People Per Hour. Not only will you have access to talented freelancers from all sectors, but you can also have the peace of mind of a safe and secure payment process and a fair rating system. What about you? 1. I often use PPH to hire freelancers for one-off jobs (hourlies), but I also have some ongoing freelancers I found via PPH. It’s really useful, I also help clients find freelancers from here as well. I started my VA business on PPH back in 2011, it was a great spring board to get my business off the ground, I would highly recommend it.
