Since I took the plunge 15 years ago, virtual assistance has become a huge industry, and I get lots of emails from people wanting advice on setting up their own business. That’s why I set up VA Pro Magazine, in 2011, as a way of giving others all the skills I’d learned over years as a VA so they can reach their goals.

Now and again you just need a straight talk with someone who’s been there and done it before you. Not just another article to read though
When I was setting up I had to learn everything the hard way, I’d try things and sometimes they’d go well and other times they’d fail spectacularly.
I can tell you that I’ve had my share of wonderful and terrible clients, been a sole trader then limited company and VAT registered, rented an office, worked with associates, had employees, then gone back to working from home again, faced almost every possible problem a small business could and still survived to tell the tale!
I don’t claim to have a six-figure business (any more, but I did get there). What I’ve had over the last 15 years is a profitable, sustainable, business that’s paid for all of my bills and holidays, allowed me to work from home with a child at school, supported me whilst I was ill for a couple of years – and now allows me to work as often or as little as I want, from wherever I want.
I was in your shoes once
Looking back I think how amazing it would have been if I’d had a friend that had been there, that understood running an online business, that knew what it was like to work remotely from clients, that had tried different ways of getting clients, retaining clients and packaging their services.
Now I love what I do, and I want you to love it too. I want you to have all the advice and help I didn’t have when I first started as a VA.
